Lloyd and Michelle Phillips have become the proud owner of the LRC 17c Super Saloon. Lloyd was on hand at Cromwell to watch Ryan Marsden race to 4th place in the NZ Super Saloon Championship and the car left the track in Lloyds trailer. This now sees the Phillips brothers Craig and Lloyd both in LRC cars after Craig and Kim Phillips purchased the ex Barry Redpath 64I a couple of months prior. The two cars are now presented under the Cleanways banner and both drivers are settling into their new rides well! We look forward to seeing them progress in the class.
All new LRC 7.5deg Wide 5 spindle. 8.5 inches tall. Suits 12.19 inch dia. rotor. 1.250 wide with a Supalyte or narrow-mount Dynalite caliper. 4.5inch steering arms with 5/8 holes top and bottom to suit O’Halloran balls. Owen Dixon had a great end to the season at Central Motor Speedway Easter Champs. John spent the night as part of the crew for Owen who really answered the challenges put before him on the track. A popular winner of the pole shuffle which saw him moving up from 5th to win 4 in a row and start from pole for the 20 lap feature. Mark Grocott got the early jump and kept the lead with Owen having a great battle with Ray Stewart before taking out a strong 2nd place. The Dixon Team is a true speedway family son Kerry also racing and both drivers well supported by family members.
Jackson Lovelady in the LRC 17c had what he would describe as a frustrating start to the season. As the house car any development ideas are tried first before going to clients. Jack was doing the development work on the 4-bar link setup. At one point we switched back to the torsion arm set up for a couple of nights but the team was unanimous in its decision to go back to the 4-bar trial. A learning curve can sometimes result in lower finishing positions but with perseverance and learning, dividends really began to pay towards the end of the season with some excellent results including an impressive showing in the North Vs South meeting in Blenheim. Jackson ended the meeting with top points on the final night and 3rd overall for the two nights.
Another good season for LRC Modifieds. With Luke Keegan leaving the class and the BRT Modified being sold to Cleve Kokshoorn, the class was open for a new NZ1.
We had a session with Gary Lennon and his team to assist in understanding their set-up and quantifying their changes. The 9C Lightening Construction car went from strength to strength winning the Canterbury Champs and placing well in most other championships.
Danny Rae has a strong middle part of the season winning the Remembrance Champs in fine style. Next year will see Danny in the ex 2014 NZ1 chassis. This should be a step up from the chassis he has been using which was originally the house car in 1997. Look out for this very talented driver next year!
Cleve Kokshoorn seemed to have plenty of speed and was definitely not afraid to use it! Given a bit more time the results certainly will come!
Long time LRC clients Ian and AnneMarie Whyte have had an exciting season as owners of the new NZ1 Harris chassis car driven by Steve Thompson. Ian is also still driving himself and showed some excellent speed during the season.
Ian has put in a huge effort into the development of Greenstone Speedway in Greymouth in readiness for the NZ Modified Title next year and we can expect an excellent event on the coast.
The season ended well for many of our clients. Ryan Marsden took his new 54c Saloon out and quickly got it to the winners circle. 40 races started. 21 victories. 4 seconds. 4 thirds and 11 others (including the odd DNF). Lowered Woodford Glens lap record on four separate occasions. The car always looked immaculate and that was recognised at the recent Woodford Glen Award night.
We would like to thank Ryan for working with us on the development of the set up for the new G6S chassis. He gave excellent feedback during the season allowing us to find a very balanced set up for the car. This culminated in more car speed which saw Ryan lower the track record 4 times! It also helped develop a good baseline for our future clients.
The long haul to Huntly was for Ryan to compare his running with the North Island cars and he was showing great speed in the first race making his way from towards the rear of the field to be challenging for the lead but unfortunately was stopped in his tracks with a car that had spun and had been left on the track. While it was disappointing not to be able to continue, he made a strong impression on the North Island drivers and showed he could certainly be competitive.
Next saloon out of the shop was the 46e of Paddy North. Paddy wanted to have a run in this car before the end of the season and the last meeting at his home track of Blenheim saw him into the car and immediately finding form with two wins from 3 races. Paddy commented on the nice balance of the car.
Another new car set to leave the workshop next week!
